Overview
Admission Process
At Matai, we strive to make the admissions process as straightforward and inclusive as possible. We welcome aspiring filmmakers and media creators from all backgrounds who share a passion for storytelling and social impact. Our admissions process is designed to assess your creative potential, enthusiasm, and commitment to learning.
How to Apply
-
Online Application: Begin by filling out our online application form here, where you’ll provide basic personal information and select your course of interest.
-
Creative Statement: As part of the application, you’ll submit a short creative statement (300-500 words) describing your goals, passion for filmmaking, and how you hope to use your skills to contribute to your community or society at large. For beginners, we’re looking for a genuine interest in media, while experienced applicants can highlight specific skills or projects they’ve worked on.
-
Portfolio Submission (Optional): If you have prior experience, you’re invited to submit a sample of your work, such as short films, media projects, or writing. This step is optional for beginners but recommended for those applying to intermediate or advanced programs.
-
Interview: Selected candidates will be invited for a brief interview (in-person or online), where we’ll get to know you better, discuss your creative aspirations, and answer any questions you might have about the program.
Admission Criteria
- Passion & Commitment: We look for applicants who are driven by a desire to create meaningful content that reflects personal or societal narratives.
- Diversity of Thought: Matai values diverse perspectives and welcomes applicants from various cultural, social, and professional backgrounds.
- Creativity: While prior experience is not required for our introductory courses, we appreciate unique ideas and a strong vision for storytelling.
